Cattermole has Bruce beaming

Sunderland boss Steve Bruce has expressed his delight at completing a deal for Lee Cattermole. The England U21 international joined the Black Cats from Wigan Athletic on Wednesday in an initial £6million deal, with that fee set to rise depending on appearances. The move sees the combative midfielder link up with Bruce for the second time, with the experienced coach having taken him to the DW Stadium from Middlesbrough last summer. Sunderland had made no secret of their desire to get Cattermole on board during the transfer window, and had seen an offer knocked back by Wigan earlier in the week. However, they have now got their man and Bruce is looking forward to working with the youngster over the course of his four-year deal. "Lee has everything that I like in a player so I'm delighted to have brought him to Sunderland," Bruce said in the Daily Express. "He is a terrific footballer. He is young, strong and has a real passion for the game that I'm sure our supporters will love. "As a North East lad, he understands what it means to represent a club in this region and will bring some real bite to our side. "I've been delighted with all the signings I've been able to make so far. Lee is a great addition and will strengthen us through the spine of the team, while creating real competition across midfield."
