Sunderland boss Steve Bruce has confirmed his interest in Hull City defender Michael Turner.
The 25-year-old centre-half has already been linked with a £6million move to Liverpool during the summer transfer window but a switch to Anfield has failed to materialise.
Now Bruce is hoping to persuade the Tigers to part company with a player who has made over 125 league appearances for the club during three years at the KC Stadium.
"It is difficult to talk about individual players," said Bruce when asked if there was any truth in newspaper stories linking Turner with a move to Wearside.
"We have registered an interest in the boy, but that's as far as it's gone as I am aware at the moment."
Meanwhile, Bruce insists that a protracted move to land Lyon defender John Mensah remains on the cards.
"We are further along with it and we don't envisage a problem," he added regarding the Ghana defender.
"We are just waiting on the British Embassy in Paris to stamp his visa and once he gets his visa he can get into the country."
