Campbell to miss rest of season

Sunderland manager Steve Bruce has revealed striker Fraizer Campbell is unlikely to play again this season as he prepares to undergo a second operation on his knee. The 23-year-old underwent surgery after damaging his cruciate ligaments against Manchester City in August, and was preparing to make his return against the same opponents earlier this month when he suffered a setback in training. It was hoped that rest would solve the new problem, which came after he twisted the knee. However, he will now have an exploratory operation which is likely to end his season. Bruce said: "Fraizer is likely to have to go back and see the specialist who operated on him previously. He will open the knee up and have a look to see how things are."
