Bruce vows to keep Kenwyne
12 Jan 2010 - 08:35:43
Sunderland manager Steve Bruce has slapped a £40million price tag on the head of coveted striker Kenwyne Jones.
Several Premier League rivals - including Liverpool, Tottenham, Stoke City and Birmingham City - are reported to be interested in the Trinidad & Tobago international.
However, Bruce has no intention of letting the 26-year-old striker leave the Stadium of Light and has attempted to warn off any interested suitors.
"Everybody's got their price, whether you're Steven Gerrard or Cristiano Ronaldo and if something out there blows your brains," he told the Daily Mail.
"But with no disrespect to Stoke or Birmingham, can they afford him? I very much doubt it. It's not just the fee but wages, all the rest of it. I just can't see it.
"On his day, you can look at Kenwyne and say he's worth £40million, then on another day you'll think, 'Come on'. That's Kenwyne.
"He tests your skills as a manager. He's a big, genuine, nice lad. It's always the challenge - to get the best out of him."
