New Sunderland manager Steve Bruce plans to snap up Lee Cattermole from the club he has just left - Wigan Athletic.
Bruce signed Cattermole from Middlesbrough last summer and the England Under-21 international midfielder enjoyed an impressive season with the Latics.
However, the combative midfielder is not thinking about a possible transfer until after the European Under 21 Championship.
"I had a good year last year and he (Steve Bruce) brought me to Wigan," Cattermole told the Sunderland Echo.
"It's a bit of a shame, but that's football. Managers change, players change all the time so hopefully I'll be able to do the same for Roberto Martinez.
"I obviously really enjoyed last year and there's a lot of changes at Wigan - we've lost our manager and our staff now.
"But I'm going to concentrate on this tournament and get back and see what the situation is with Wigan and meet the new manager and see how it goes."
