Bruce hails Cats' response

Steve Bruce was delighted by the manner in which Sunderland collected a 4-1 victory over Hull City on Saturday. The Black Cats claimed the comfortable success on home soil after initially struggling to overcome a resolute Tigers outfit. Darren Bent opened the scoring early on at the Stadium of Light, but Kamil Zayatte had the visitors level at the break. The North East outfit were a different proposition after the interval, though, and goals from Andy Reid, a second from Bent and a Zayatte own goal saw them claim a third win of the season. "We got the goal at the right time, I thought, and then went a little bit sloppy," Bruce told Sky Sports afterwards. "We got pegged back, and they have scored from a corner, but the second half was much better. "We kept the ball better, we had a bit of penetration and concentration. It is a new team that we have got, so to get a result like that is terrific." Pride Bruce was also full of praise for debutant Michael Turner, with the defender putting in a commanding display against his former employers. "You can see why we brought him here," added the Black Cats boss. "He is a typical centre-back who wants to just defend. He takes pride in defending. If there is a block to be done or a challenge to be made, he makes it. He put in a great performance." Sunderland sit inside the Premier League's top six on the back of their latest success, but Bruce insists no-one at the club will be getting carried away by their impressive start. "It's been okay. It's decent," he said. "But we know how the Premier League is and if we get carried away and think we have cracked it we will get our backsides kicked. "We will keep working hard and plugging away."
