Bruce faces Al-Muhammadi fight

Sunderland face competition from West Brom as the race to sign Egypt international Ahmed Al-Muhammadi intensifies.

The Black Cats had been favourites to sign the defender whose club, ENPPI, are hoping Albion's interest will start a bidding war for their player.

The 22-year-old is expected to travel to England this week to hold talks about his future.

Meanwhile, Nyron Nosworthy is believed to be on the verge of signing for Sheffield United.

The 29-year-old defender impressed when he joined the Championship club on loan in the January transfer window and could move to Bramall Lane in a £500,000 deal.

Another fringe first-team player who has left the Stadium of Light is Roy O'Donovan who has joined Coventry City.

The 24-year-old, a former Sky Blues trainee, was not offered a new contract by Steve Bruce and will officially join his new club on Thursday.
