Bruce eyes quality recruits

Sunderland manager Steve Bruce is keen to add a number of new players to his squad this summer to ensure that the Black Cats continue to make progress. A 13th-placed finish last season was satisfactory for Bruce, but he is aiming to break into the top half of the Premier League table next season. He told the club's official website: "The league is getting tougher every year and that's another reason why we have to keep moving forward. "If you're not progressing, you're moving backwards. The teams who have come up all deserve to be here and as ever there will be no easy games. "Looking around the league, everyone seems to be getting stronger every season and I can assure the fans we're looking to do the same. "All it will take is some well-judged, timely additions to the strong core we have here. We are working hard to improve - but so are the 19 other clubs who will line up alongside us. "I'm already excited by the new season and I for one can't wait to get back in for pre-season training in a month's time."
