Bruce backs Bent for England

Steve Bruce has again championed Darren Bent's case for inclusion in the England squad. Bent has made a stunning start to the Premier League season after joining Sunderland from Tottenham in a big-money deal over the summer. He scored two more goals on Saturday in a 4-1 demolition of Hull City, to take his tally to four goals this term, before being replaced after 73 minutes due to a minor niggle. The striker would appear to be a long way down Fabio Capello's pecking order at present but Bruce believes he can break back into the England fold if he continues to perform to such a high standard. "You can see he is enjoying his football here," the Black Cats manager said in the Sunday Mirror. "As far as England is concerned he is doing his talking on the pitch. "There are not many English centre-forwards in the Premier League and he must have an outside chance of making the World Cup squad. "I wanted him to get a hat-trick but I took him off because he complained of a groin injury."
