    Bruce admits striker interest

    12 Jan 2010 - 12:07:54

Sunderland manager Steve Bruce has admitted his interest in signing Paraguay striker Salvador Cabanas.

Bruce would love to make the 29-year-old international hit-man his latest signing from South America.

The Black Cats boss has a history of plucking little-known players from obscure destinations, with the likes of Colombian Hugo Rodallega and Hendry Thomas from Honduras joining Wigan during Bruce's managerial reign.

One Paraguayan in Paulo Da Silva has already joined Sunderland this season but, despite admitting his interest, Bruce doubts that Club America striker Cabanas will be following suit.

"I've monitored Cabanas. You know I've had a little contact in South America," he admitted.

"Cabanas is a fantastic player, whether it's possible, I'm not quite sure.

"He's somebody who would be of interest but I'm sure if he became available, there'd be lots more interest too."
