Bruce: We may sign more players

HE might have signed nine players already this summer, but Sunderland boss Steve Bruce last night claimed his spending spree was far from finished.[LNB] Phil Bardsley and Oumare Tounkara were on target as the Black Cats opened their pre-season programme with a 2-1 victory at Blue Square Bet Premier side York City.[LNB] Craig Gardner was the only new signing on display, but all nine summer arrivals will be part of a 23-man squad that travels to Germany tomorrow ahead of a three-game tour.[LNB] With another six weeks until the transfer window closes, more signings could still be in the offing and Bruce said: You never say never. We've worked extremely hard this summer and we're pleased with the business we've done. But as a manager, you're always scouting around and I will keep trying and plugging away.[LNB] It's my job to keep asking for more and that's what I will be doing. We obviously need to move a few players out the other way, but there's plenty of time left [before the window closes].[LNB] Bruce watched Titus Bramble, Michael Turner, Lee Cattermole and Kieran Richardson return from injury last night, and was delighted to see his entire squad come through their opening pre-season game unscathed.[LNB] There were a few of the lads needed that run out, he said. The two lads at the back have been out for five or six months so it was just nice to see them out on the pitch again.[LNB]
