Bruce jealous of City spending power

Sunderland boss Steve Bruce is envious of Manchester City's spending power - and well aware he does not have that at the Stadium of Light.[LNB] Bruce was among the crowd at Eastlands last Monday evening to see City dismantle Liverpool, and was blown away by the quality of the players who could not even make the starting XI.[LNB]He said: "I went to watch them last Monday against Liverpool, when they played fantastically well.[LNB]"The five subs cost £100million and behind me, there were five people sitting in suits who cost £100million too, so that's what you are up against, that's what the Premier League is.[LNB]"We are all jealous really, if the truth be known. We would like it washed around and to have a level playing field.[LNB]"But if you look at all of the big clubs, they have all had one thing: the spending power and attraction that makes them a big club.[LNB]"City have catapulted themselves in there. After years and years of being nearly men, now they have catapulted themselves right amongst the big boys of Europe.[LNB]"They have obviously got to win things and win things over the next 20, 30, 40, 50 years to catapult them into the same breath, but they have got an outstanding chance to break into the superpowers.[LNB]"You are judged when you start winning something. They have been going at it a couple of years now and haven't quite managed it, so it's a big few years for them."[LNB]Sunderland have themselves invested heavily in recent years by standards other than those of City or previously Chelsea, and although their spending has been more controlled under Bruce, expectation has grown as a result.[LNB]However, the manager knows there is still plenty to be done as he keeps his fingers crossed that chairman Niall Quinn attempts to secure a replacement for striker Kenwyne Jones.[LNB]He said: "There has been many a big manager here who has come in, and it is a wonderful big football club which has got this expectation and nothing really to back it up with.[LNB]"I understood that when I walked through the door 12 months ago. I knew it wouldn't be easy.[LNB]"I didn't think I would be making 25 changes with people going out and 12 or 13 coming in, so of course you need a bit of patience.[LNB]"We know realistically in football, it is not often given these days, but I do believe we are doing the right thing or will try to do the right thing and try to make us even better."
