Sunderland manager Steve Bruce admitted the 2-0 win over Atletico Madrid at the Amsterdam tournament had "given everybody a lift". Two goals from midfielder Kieran Richardson secured victory over the Spaniards, who finished fourth in La Liga last season. Bruce said: "It was a great result for us but it's all about the preparation. I'm not going to get carried away. "But it's given everybody a lift. They've worked so hard and they deserve a result. "The players have been fantastically well-behaved, they've worked hard and now they'll go home and keep the preparation right, which is important. "If you play Atletico Madrid you have to work and they did that. Defensively, the organisation was very good and we looked more cutting up front. Overall it was very, very pleasing."
