Sunderland have completed the signing of former Newcastle defender Titus Bramble from Wigan. The 29-year-old, who missed the end of last season with a foot injury, has joined for an undisclosed fee and has signed a three-year contract.

Bramble will be reunited with manager Steve Bruce, who made the switch from Wigan last summer.

"Steve's a massive part of the move - having played for him I know what a good manager he is," Bramble said.

Bramble began his career with home-town club Ipswich, making his first-team debut in 1998 before joining Newcastle.

After making over 100 appearances for the Magpies he joined Wigan on a free transfer in June 2007.

And having seen Bruce leave for the Stadium of Light in May 2009 he believes he can recapture his own best form having now made the move to the north east.

"I played the best football of my career under him. His man-management skills are amazing and I know how he likes to so it wasn't a hard choice to make," he told Sunderland's website.

Bruce was also glad to have Bramble back in his side.

"Titus was absolutely outstanding for me at Wigan," he said.

"He matured into a very, very good player so there was absolutely no hesitation when the chance came to bring him to Sunderland.

"He was certainly the right player at the right price and this is a great deal for the football club."
