Bosnia striker Edin Dzeko in Sunderland's sights

Dzeko has emerged as a Stadium of Light target and was watched by Sunderland manager Ricky Sbragia last weekend when he scored in the 4-2 defeat of Belgium in Genk. The 23-year-old has come to Sunderland's attention after helping himself to 16 goals in 31 games for Bundesliga side Wolfsburg this season but his exploits have also alerted Arsenal and Fulham. Quinn knows that protecting Premier League status remains the priority but that has not stopped him from long-term planning as he sets his sights on turning the Wearside club into a top 10 outfit. "At the moment our aim is to stay away from the bottom three," said Quinn. "But beyond that, our target is to establish ourselves into the top half of the Premier League and with the squad that we have now with their ages and their profiles it's not unrealistic. "And I think that providing we stay up, we can hope for a period of stability and progress for Sunderland. "Ricky is looking to find the very best targets to bring in to improve the team and the board aims to make sure he has the money he wants to make it happen – so the will and desire is there on both sides." Sunderland travel to West Ham on Saturday and will hope to ease their own relegation worries that persist because they remain just three points above the relegation zone ahead of Saturday's trip to West Ham United. Despite the current travails, Quinn is optimistic about the club's ability to attract top-notch players. "We will be able to go for more quality players because, for one thing, it will be our third year in the Premiership," Quinn added. "That alone increases our pulling power and we also have the finances in place to help in that direction. "What I'm hoping for above all right now is that we can finish safely fairly early and Ricky can then focus on having six to eight weeks in the summer to put his stamp on the club." Quinn continued: "We've got a tricky few weeks ahead, but if we can keep everything on course, then I think we will be able to push on and give fans a very exciting team to watch. "We are urging as many people as possible to take advantage of the season ticket offer. "And hopefully they will be the winners next season because they will be able to watch Sunderland move on to the next stage and they'll be able to watch it for much less than it would otherwise have cost them. "These are a nervy few weeks for the team at the bottom but we're determined to not only stay in this division but to progress too."
