Black Cats face Da Silva fight

Sunderland face competition from another Premier League club for Paraguayan defender Paulo da Silva. Black Cats boss Steve Bruce thought he had won the race to sign Da Silva on a free transfer after the player's contract at Toluca expired. The 29-year-old was due to travel to Wearside to tie up the move this week, but Da Silva has revealed he has received an offer from an unnamed Premier League rival. "I have been offered a three-year contract with a team you already know about - Sunderland - but I'm now waiting on an offer from another English team," said Da Silva. "I'm sure in the next few days I will know who I'm going to sign for. "I have to stop off in Paraguay to solve some visa problems, then I will meet with people in England to see what is the best thing for me."
