Black Cats cull seven
Dwight Yorke is one of seven players released by Sunderland this summer following the conclusion of the Premier League season.
Along with Yorke, the likes of David Connolly, Arnau Riera, Nick Colgan, Darren Ward and youngsters Peter Hartley and Niall McArdle have left the club.
Yorke, who turns 38 in November, became the club's fifth oldest player in last month's 2-1 home defeat to champions Manchester United.
Connolly has not featured for the club in over a year while former Barcelona 'B' captain Riera has spent the past two seasons on loan at Falkirk.
The Black Cats have decided not to retain veteran keepers Colgan and Ward with the likes of Marton Fulop and Trevor Carson vying with Craig Gordon for the club's No.1 shirt.
Young defender Hartley has already found himself a new club after penning a two-year deal with League One outfit Hartlepool.
Meanwhile, the club have confirmed Michael Chopra will complete a permanent move to Cardiff City for a £4million fee when the transfer window re-opens on 1st July.
Loan players Calum Davenport and Tal Ben Haim have returned to West Ham and Manchester City respectively along with Djibril Cisse, who failed to win a permanent move to the club.
