Bent on verge of Cats move

Tottenham striker Darren Bent's transfer to Sundeland moved a step closer after it was revealed that the former Charlton Athletic star will be having a medical at the Stadium of Light on Wednesday.

Bent seems certain to leave White Hart Lane after Spurs boss Harry Redknapp completed the signing of Portsmouth striker Peter Crouch on Monday evening.

Bent had been about to board a flight to China with the rest of the Spurs squad on Monday when he was told to remain in England.

Redknapp said earlier on Tuesday that Bent was close to signing for the Black Cats for an initial fee that is thought to be in the region of £12million.

Spurs signed Bent from Charlton Athletic two years ago for £16.5million but he has struggled during his time in north London, scoring 25 goals in 79 appearances for the club.

Meanwhile, Sunderland continue to be linked with Sedan defender Paul Baysse.
