Bent aims high with Black Cats

Darren Bent claims Sunderland have the potential to finish above his former club Tottenham this season. The 25-year-old striker, who has signed for £10million rising to a possible £16.5million, revealed the two years at Spurs were the worst of his career. Bent said: "Sunderland have the potential to go beyond Spurs. We have some fantastic players and if we can apply ourselves and not put ourselves under too much pressure maybe we can be up there. "I would say my career stood still [at Tottenham] but the second season I still scored a lot of goals. It may have been a hard two years for me but I had to grow up as a person and a player. "Tottenham can be an unsettling place to be. They sell strikers then they buy them back and they are linked with every striker under the sun. "There's nothing worse as a striker than seeing your club linked with every other striker. I have left all of that behind. It was the worst two years of my career but the chapter has closed and now I'm at Sunderland."
