Bent will come good again - Bruce

Sunderland boss Steve Bruce has backed star striker Darren Bent to end his personal drought after a bad day in front of goal. Bent was not the only villain as the Black Cats passed up a series of glorious opportunities to allow Blackpool to leave Wearside with all three points after a 2-0 win. However, he has now gone five games without a goal and is marooned on nine for the season. Bent might have walked away with a hat-trick or better, and with record signing Asamoah Gyan and Danny Welbeck in similarly wasteful mood, Sunderland were made to pay for their lack of accuracy. But Bruce is convinced that if the £10million man is presented with as many openings against Blackburn on Saturday, he will take them. He said: "Darren Bent has had a wonderful 18 months for us. There are going to be times when a goalscorer goes through it, but as they say, class is permanent. He has missed a few chances, but the good thing for me is he kept getting in there and he kept getting the chances. "Let's hope he gets the same amount on Saturday because if he does, I know for a fact he will finish two or three of them. "Darren Bent has been a fantastic asset to us. He is going through one of those little periods. But five games without a goal is not a disaster, is it?"
