Darren Bent is poised to complete his move from Tottenham Hotspur to Sunderland after passing a medical on Tuesday.
A fee in the region of £12million is said to have been agreed between the two Premier League sides.
It is reported that a delay over the paperwork means the deal will not be sealed until Wednesday.
Bent is surplus to requirements at White Hart Lane following Peter Crouch's summer arrival from Portsmouth.
The 25-year-old joined Spurs from Charlton in 2007 for £16.5million and has netted 25 goals in 79 appearances since the switch.
Bent is likely to partner Kenwyne Jones at the Stadium of Light as Black Cats boss Steve Bruce plots for his first season in charge on Wearside.
