Bent open to Cole advice

Sunderland striker Darren Bent has revealed he has taken advice from Premier League legend Andrew Cole.[LNB] Despite his prolific club form last season, in which he scored 25 goals, Bent missed out on a place in Fabio Capello's doomed England World Cup squad.[LNB]The setback may have proved a blessing in disguise, however, as Bent has since returned to Capello's revamped squad and netted his first international goal against Switzerland earlier this month.[LNB]Bent's career for club and country has been similar to Cole, who netted just once in 15 caps for England despite scoring 270 club goals in a prolific career.[LNB]Bent was introduced to Cole by a mutual friend and the former Manchester United striker was on hand with some words of wisdom.[LNB]"One of my friends knows Andrew Cole and told me he'd always wanted to speak to me, so I gave him a call and he was fantastic," revealed Bent.[LNB]"He said congratulations on the England goal and gave me a few words about not letting anyone get me down.[LNB]"People used to say he wasn't international class. Yet he was playing in the Champions League, scoring goal after goal, and supposedly wasn't good enough for England.[LNB]"He just said, 'Don't let anyone tell you that you can't do anything - stay positive'. It was fantastic to hear that."[LNB]Bent has started the new season as he ended the last, netting four goals in Sunderland's five outings to date, and he hopes the goals will now flow for England too having broken his international duck.[LNB]The former Tottenham forward added: "That goal has lifted a burden off me, most definitely. The next time I get on the pitch, I'll feel more confident."
