Baggies to bid Â2.5m for Webo

West Brom are ready to spark a transfer scramble for Pierre Webo by offering £2.5million for the unsettled Real Mallorca striker. The 29-year-old is at loggerheads with cash-strapped Mallorca, who can't afford to give him the long-term deal that he craves. Webo's agent Eugenio Botas contacted Albion, Newcastle and Sunderland at the end of last month to make them aware of his possible availability - and Roy Hodgson is reportedly ready to put a £2.5million bid on the table. The Baggies are keen to bolster their frontline in a bid to ease the burden on leading goalscorer Peter Odemwingie, who is in talks over a new lucrative deal at The Hawthorns. And having toyed with the idea of playing Somen Tchoyi as a central striker following his hat-trick at Newcastle on the last day of the season, they have instead decided to splash the cash on Webo. The Cameroon international has been on Albion's radar since catching the eye in a pre-season friendly at The Hawthorns three seasons ago. Webo enjoyed a successful season in La Liga, scoring 11 goals in 34 appearances and impressing Mallorca fans with his workrate.
