Stuttgart welcome Pogrebnyak

Recent VfB Stuttgart signing Pavel Pogrebnyak has been welcomed as the perfect striker to help the club challenge for the Bundesliga title.

The 25-year-old Russia international has moved to Germany from Zenit St Petersburg and is expected to make a big impact.

Coach Markus Babbel said: "He is just the kind of striker I wanted. He is different to the three strikers I already have.

"He should play to his strengths. He is dynamic and a real handful due to his height, which allows us to play the ball a little higher and this makes our game more varied."

The club's general manager, Horst Heldt, added: "Zenit tried to extend his contract but he decided he wanted to do something different.

"As soon as we got wind of that, we made contact with his German agent. Pavel is precisely the kind of striker we were looking for."
