Stuttgart still keen on Ba

VfB Stuttgart general manager Horst Heldt remains optimistic that his club will be able to complete a deal to sign striker Demba Ba from TSG Hoffenheim.

The 24-year-old has been told that he will not be allowed to leave Hoffe this summer, but Heldt still has hopes of landing a player who scored 14 Bundesliga goals last season.

Heldt told the Stuttgarter Zeitung newspaper: "All I can say is that we have a very friendly relationship with our neighbours from Hoffenheim and we place a lot of importance on this.

"At the end of the day, there are a lot of people there who have a lot in common with us in that they were with VfB Stuttgart in the past."

Heldt went on to confirm that an alternative to Ba is Serbia striker Milan Jovanovic, who currently plays his football in Belgium with Standard Liege.

Stuttgart are eager to bolster their strikeforce, having seen Mario Gomez leave the club to join Bayern Munich.
