Stuttgart seal Pogrebnyak deal

Russia international Pavel Pogrebnyak has penned a four-year contract with Stuttgart after completing his transfer from Zenit St Petersburg to the Bundesliga side.

The German team's general manager, Horst Heldt, sees the 25-year-old as the ideal replacement for Mario Gomez who was sold to Bayern Munich earlier in the summer.

"We are delighted that it has worked out," said Heldt.

"He fulfills precisely the profile that we were looking for. He is a target man, just like Mario Gomez.

"We said that we would not do anything crazy. Pavel only had six months left on his contract so 10million euros would have clearly been too much.

"Theoretically, we could make some more additions. The window is open until the end of August and we will leave this opportunity open to us."
