Stuttgart seal Niedermeier deal
12 Feb 2010 - 07:11:13
VfB Stuttgart have wrapped up a deal to sign defender Georg Niedermeier on a permanent deal from Bayern Munich.
The 23-year-old joined Stuttgart at the start of last season after failing to make his mark at the Allianz Arena, but was due to head back to Bayern at the end of the current campaign.
However, the two clubs have now reached an agreement which has seen Niedermeier pen a contract running until the summer of 2014.
Niedermeier told his new club's official website: "This has been in the air for a while and it was something I could always imagine since I have settled into the team well.
"I feel really happy in Stuttgart and am delighted to have clarity."
Meanwhile, Stuttgart's Dutch defender Khalid Boulahrouz has voiced his unhappiness at seeing a possible move to Ajax fall through last month.
The 28-year-old joined the Bundesliga outfit in the summer of 2008, but has dropped out of the starting line-up in recent times.
He told Sportweek: "I was really looking forward to joining Ajax, particularly because of the presence of head coach Martin Jol.
"However, Stuttgart eventually refused to let go of me. They initially wanted to farm me out on a six-month loan deal and Ajax made an offer.
"They then withdrew their offer due to financial reasons. I even considered playing for Ajax without getting paid, nevertheless, some people at Ajax were reluctant to take any risks."
