With Germany star Sami Khedira set to play for Real Madrid at Borussia Dortmund on Wednesday in the Champions League, his younger brother Rani has signed for Bundesliga side VfB Stuttgart.

The 18-year-old has made 13 appearances for Stuttgart's reserve team in Germany's third league this season having moved up from the club's junior teams.

"We are moving our planning forward for next summer, bringing Rani Khedira closer to professional football," said Stuttgart manager Fredi Bobic.

"He can train without pressure and collect some experience at this level."

Defensive midfielder Sami Khedira played for Stuttgart from 1995 until 2010 and was in the senior team from 2006 until he signed for Real after the 2010 World Cup, playing 98 Bundesliga matches.
