Low rules out Lehmann return

Germany national team boss Joachim Low has dismissed rumours suggesting that he could call veteran goalkeeper Jens Lehmann out of international retirement.

Low currently has Bayer Leverkusen's Rene Adler, Hannover's Robert Enke, Manuel Neuer of Schalke and Werder Bremen's Tim Wiese battling it out for a starting spot and insists that Lehmann's time has come and gone.

He told Bild: "Jens is a very ambitious goalkeeper, his career has always been associated with clear objectives.

"It is a personal goal and motivation for him to play in a big tournament like the World Cup again in 2010. I understand that.

"We have absolute belief in our four goalkeepers. All have presented themselves well recently and we assume that they will continue to improve.

"Therefore Jens Lehmann is now not a topic for discussion.

"I assume that the current situation will not change, but of course there can be injuries and losses of form."
