Goal drought worries Gomez
31 Mar 2009 - 08:37:45
Stuttgart striker Mario Gomez admits that he is becoming worried by his inability to find the net on the international stage.
The 23-year-old frontman has not scored in his last 13 games for Germany, with his last goals coming in a 4-0 win over Switzerland just under a year ago.
Gomez told Eurosport after another barren night against Liechtenstein: "Of course, the whistles hurt.
"It is obvious that it wasn't good and if they are whistling me personally, then that isn't nice.
"I know how it is and it would be different had I scored. I just need to start putting the ball over the line.
"I can't explain the goal drought. I'm doing nothing different to when I play for my club.
"I'm training well and scoring lots in training, but as soon as I'm on the pitch it's like I'm jinxed."
Germany coach Joachim Low had spoken up in defence of Gomez after the weekend action, adding: "It is not a tragedy. What is unfortunate are those whistles when he missed his chances.
"He is a very good young player with great qualities who is going through a low period. He needs the support of our fans."
