Basturk fights for his future

Playmaker Yildiray Basturk is determined to try and impress at Stuttgart after seeing a move to Besiktas fail to materialise.

The 30-year-old had seemed set to head to Turkey before the transfer window slammed shut, only for Besiktas to change targets and snap up Gaziantepspor's Rodrigo Tabata instead.

Basturk told the Stuttgarter Nachrichten: "We tried everything we could to make the deal happen, but Besiktas eventually opted to sign Rodrigo Tabata instead for unknown reasons.

"However, I'm not that disappointed. I still have two more years to go on my Stuttgart contract.

"I'm not too happy with the lack of regular first-team football, but I'll not give up that easily. I'm fully match-fit and I'll do my utmost to convince the coach of my qualities."

Basturk plays his international football for Turkey, but has played all of his club football in Germany with Bochum, Bayer Leverkusen, Hertha Berlin and Stuttgart.
