Babbel remains upbeat

VfB Stuttgart head coach Markus Babbel remains confident that his side are capable of good things, despite a poor start to the new season.

A 2-1 defeat by Schalke made it just two wins in nine Bundesliga games this term, with Stuttgart down among the relegation candidates at the moment.

However, a defiant Babbel said: "You could see that the team is intact. However, it is obvious that criticism arises when the points don't come.

"If the team stops pulling in the right direction, then there could come the point (when I resign), but that is absolutely not an issue right now.

"I am still optimistic. Apart from two individual errors, I cannot criticise my team."

Stuttgart director of sport Horst Heldt added: "The situation is critical, it's catastrophic, but we are not discussing the coach internally."
