Babbel calms Gomez fears

New Stuttgart coach Markus Babbel insists his squad can cope with the loss of main striker Mario Gomez to a torn calf muscle.

The Germany international limped out of Babbel's 2-0 debut victory over Schalke last weekend and is unlikely to play again until the Bundesliga resumes after its winter break.

"This is a blow, of course," admitted Babbel.

"But we have enough strong players in the squad. Now they can show what they're capable of."
