City are survivors

Brechin confirmed their survival in League One with a 2-1 win over promotion-chasing Stranraer.

Knowing a win would guarantee safety, things got off to a perfect start for the visitors when Andrew Jackson was brought down by Frank McKeown inside the area.

Alan Trouten coolly slotted the penalty into the bottom left corner to put Brechin in front after just five minutes.

The lead lasted just 15 minutes as Andrew Stirling's cross from the left looped into the far corner beyond Graeme Smith.

With Stranraer looking to confirm their places in the promotion play-offs, they dominated the possession and had the best chances throughout the game but could not get the vital breakthrough.

The home fans were stunned when Jackson teed up Robert Thompson, who finished from inside the area to give The Hedgemen an important win.
