Aitken rescues Stranraer

A late Christopher Aitken penalty spared Stranraer's blushes as they drew 2-2 with rock-bottom East Stirling in the Third Division.

The Shire stunned promotion-chasing Stranraer by going ahead after just three minutes.

The goal was all about midfielder Scott Maxwell, who upon seeing his corner cleared, picked up the ball and curled a sublime effort into the far corner, to leave goalkeeper Ryan Marshall stranded.

Stranraer midfielder Stephen Stirling equalised in the 33rd minute as he drilled an unstoppable 18-yard effort past Callum Antell.

The second half was only 30 seconds old when East Stirling's Lewis Horner spiced the game up with a powerful strike into the top corner to restore the hosts' lead.

Aitken had the last laugh, though, as he nervelessly converted from the spot in the 89th minute after Rhys Devlin had handled.
