Vasquez denies Potters deal

FC Zurich midfielder Andres Vasquez has denied telling reporters that he is close to agreeing a summer switch to Stoke City.

The 21-year-old Sweden Under-21 international had been quoted as saying that he was set to join the Potters, but Vasquez has rubbished such suggestions.

He told Fotbollskanalen.se: "I read in a Peruvian newspaper that I was on my way to Stoke. But I have never said such a thing.

"It is of course flattering if a club in the Premier League would want you.

"I have a dialogue with Zurich, they say that they want me for next season. I am ready to stay. I am motivated.

"I want to play in Europe and it feels stimulating to maybe play in the Champions League.

"But the transfer window is open, so we will see what happens."

Meanwhile City have also been linked with Dinamo Zagreb striker Mario Mandzukic, although Werder Bremen appear to be in pole position to land the Croatia international.
