Three points the key for Pulis
17 Aug 2009 - 07:09:08
Manager Tony Pulis was pleased to see his Stoke City side open the new Premier League season with a 2-0 home win over Burnley.
A Ryan Shawcross header and an own goal gave the Potters all three points, with Pulis pleased with the outcome rather than the performance as a whole.
He told the club's official website: "I just think that when you are playing a team who are newly promoted, they play with freedom and you don't really know what you are going to get.
"Our lads put in a lot of effort, grafted and stuck at it and we managed to get two goals from set-plays, which I am absolutely delighted with.
"The first game of the season you just don't know what you are going to get, but fair play to the lads, because without really getting out of first gear they got the right result.
"There was definitely room for improvement and we will make sure that happens.
"But we got a clean sheet, three points, made a great start and that is just what we wanted."
