    Stoke set sights on Gudjohnsen

    31 Aug 2010 - 08:58:19

Chairman Peter Coates has confirmed Stoke City's interest in signing Eidur Gudjohnsen.

The 31-year-old Iceland forward spent the second half of last season on loan at Tottenham and the Potters have held talks with Monaco over a similar deal.

Gudjohnsen previously spent six years in the Premier League with Bolton Wanderers and Chelsea before leaving for Barcelona in 2006.

"We have inquired about him," Coates told The Sentinel. "We have talked about getting him on a 12-month loan because we think he could be a good player for 12 months, and maybe after that.

"But whether it happens or not, or how far we will get, we just don't know yet."

Meanwhile, manager Tony Pulis is anticipating a hectic end to the transfer window at the Britannia Stadium.

He hopes Portsmouth midfielder Marc Wilson is just one of up to four deadline day signings.

"I'm hoping we can bring in three or four," he confirmed. "We are looking at a few younger players with experience in the Premier League and a few that can help one or two weaknesses in the group.

"If we can integrate young people into the group, we can see the club and the spirit grow.

"It's an absolute nightmare trying to deal in the market, but I've been too long in the game not to be optimistic.

"It is a mess nowadays, but you have to swim through it and hope you come out the other end."
