    Sorensen upbeat over recovery

    17 May 2010 - 11:51:25

Stoke City goalkeeper Thomas Sorensen is optimistic that he will overcome an elbow injury in time to feature for Denmark at this summer's World Cup finals in South Africa.

The 33-year-old suffered a dislocated elbow in the 7-0 thrashing at Chelsea in late April, but is upbeat about the way his recovery is progressing.

He told The Sentinel: "The second scan shows really good progress and now I am really hopeful.

"Obviously there is still a fair bit of bruising and ligament strain, but it is healing really well. The ligament is intact and looking really strong.

"We're now building it back up again and I've just had my first feel of the ball, which felt really good.

"Hopefully, in a couple of weeks and after a lot of hard work, I'll be close to full training.

"I've got five weeks until the first game, so there is plenty of time and no excuse to over-exercise and overdo it.

"I'm hoping to play in a friendly before the World Cup to assure myself and get into a game situation and get a feel of it before it all kicks off.

"We play a game against South Africa which will be in a packed stadium, so that will be a good test for us."
