Soares fights for City future

Stoke City midfielder Tom Soares is determined to try and forge a successful future at the Britannia Stadium.

The 22-year-old struggled in his first season with the Potters and was loaned out to Charlton Athletic after making just eight appearances for Tony Pulis' side.

He told The Sentinel: "It was difficult last season, but I thought I did well when I played. But the manager changed things and the team was doing well.

"That was the most important thing, so it was difficult for me to knock on his door and tell him I wanted to play.

"The team was getting results against teams they perhaps shouldn't have and I wanted to feel part of that.

"At times I didn't, but people who are not in the side will be disappointed. You have to accept that. Now I hope this season will be a fresh start for me.

"I want to stay and fight for my place, but if I am in the same situation again, then myself and the manager will have to sit down and see where my future lies."
