Shawcross cools Spurs talk

Former Manchester United trainee Ryan Shawcross has cooled reports linking him with a move to Tottenham Hotspur by insisting that he is happy at Stoke City.

The 21-year-old central defender played a key role in the Potters' successful bid to avoid an immediate return to the Championship last term and has no rush to move on at this stage of his career.

He insisted: "I'm not really fussed about the rumours. I'm a Stoke player and, until someone tells me otherwise, I'll still be a Stoke player."

Meanwhile, Stoke boss Tony Pulis cannot understand where the rumours have emanated from, saying: "I get on well with Harry (Redknapp) and would be very surprised if it's in the papers, and he hasn't rung me first.

"If it's right for the football club then I'll do the deals.

"You'll always be open to criticism, people will think that you've not done it the right way, but it's important to get it right for the position we're in."
