Stoke City defender Ryan Shawcross will not change his style of play despite being castigated for his challenge on Aaron Ramsey on Saturday that left the Arsenal youngster with a broken leg.

Gunners boss Arsene Wenger described Shawcross' tackle, for which the 22-year-old was sent off, as 'horrendous'.

Just hours after the incident, the former Manchester United youngster was called into the England squad for the first time although he did not eventually play any part in Wednesday's 3-1 victory against Egypt.

He told The Sentinel: "Hopefully, when I'm back from suspension, I can do well again. The fans and a lot of people around me have been fantastic in their support over the past few days.

"The other players have been fantastic. It's been about football really, nothing else. I've enjoyed it thoroughly with England. It's been a tough few days, but all I can do now is look forward and hopefully get back in this squad again.

"I've been called into the squad and there's a lot of good players in it, but hopefully I can do well over the next couple of months and get my chance."
