Reid right for Stoke

Stoke have confirmed the appointment of Peter Reid as assistant manager to Tony Pulis. Reid has had his contract as coach of the Thailand national team terminated by mutual consent in order to take up the position at the Britannia Stadium. The 53-year-old has signed a permanent deal with Stoke having already assisted Pulis at matches and in training sessions this season. "I've come to an agreement with the Thai FA," Reid told his new club's official website, www.stokecityfc.com. "They've been very helpful and I've got a great relationship with the chairman, Worawi Makudi. "I would like to go on record in thanking them for everything - being an international manager is great. "The pull of working with Tony Pulis and a club like Stoke City, in the Premier League, was just too great to turn down." The former Manchester City and Sunderland boss signed a four-year contract with the South East Asians in September 2008 and had suggested continuing his role as Thailand coach alongside his work with the Potters, but the Thai FA rejected the proposal. "Logistically it was just too difficult to stay on," Reid continued. "But we shake hands and go on our separate ways. "I still have many friends over there though and will always look out for their results." Pulis welcomed the appointment of the vastly experienced former England international, saying: "It's great to be able to add such experience to the coaching side of the football club."
