Pulis still focused on survival
11 Mar 2010 - 09:21:04
Stoke City manager Tony Pulis was pleased with a 1-1 draw at Burnley which edged his side closer to certain Premier League survival for a second season.
The Clarets took a share of the spoils thanks to a David Nugent goal, after Tuncay had given the visitors a one-goal advantage at the break.
Pulis told the club's official website: "Staying up this season would give me more pleasure than it did last year.
"Everyone tells you about the second-season syndrome and history proves that. If we can come out of it and stay in this League then the future is very bright for us.
"We have got 35 points with ten games to go, so still our first aim is to get to 40 points as quickly as possible.
"Obviously, then we will try and better what we did last year. If we can do that then this will have been an absolutely remarkable season."
Meanwhile, Pulis shrugged aside Burnley's ploy of moving advertising hoardings closer to the pitch to try and prevent Rory Delap from launching his trademark long throws.
He added: "We noticed what they had done as soon as we came out. We get on with it, it is their club, it's their ground.
"They have to do what they have to do. You take it and get on with it. I don't care where a goal comes from, it is always satisfying scoring.
"Because he was a javelin thrower as well, Rory has that technique obviously down to a treat."
