Pulis still backing Kitson

Tony Pulis believes Dave Kitson can return to Stoke next season and make a big impact in the Premier League. The striker moved to the Britannia Stadium for a record £5.5million fee last summer but endured a miserable start to the campaign, failing to score in 18 appearances. He was allowed to rejoin former club Reading on loan in March but his spell at the Madejski Stadium ended with their exit from the Championship play-offs in midweek. Pulis is looking forward to welcoming the 29-year-old back into his squad and feels confident he will deliver some improved performances. Kitson enjoyed some success with the Royals when they were last in the top flight and Pulis thinks the key for him is to regain confidence. "I have not spoken to Dave yet but obviously Reading's defeat was an enormous disappointment for him," said Pulis. Unfortunate "He will come back as I thought he was unfortunate here. He had a lot of things going on behind the scenes that did not help. "We still think Dave is a quality player. If he gets a couple of goals early on next season that could help him. "He has done it before and done very well in the Premier League. It hasn't worked here yet but that happens with lots of players. "Dave will have a fresh start and if he gets a good pre-season under his belt that will help him."
