Stoke City manager Tony Pulis is confident of landing Portsmouth defender Marc Wilson.
The Potters are believed to be willing to send Liam Lawrence and Dave Kitson to the Championship club in exchange for the 23-year-old and Pulis has held constructive talks with Pompey counterpart Steve Cotterill.
Wilson was named club captain at Fratton Park ahead of the new campaign.
"I spoke to Portsmouth manager Steve Cotterill and we are trying to crack on with a deal," he revealed.
"Marc has played a lot of Premier League games for a youngster and he's a good passer."
