Pulis happy to pick up point
02 Feb 2010 - 07:49:44
Manager Tony Pulis praised the defensive strength of his Stoke City side after they left Sunderland with a point following a hard-fought goalless draw on Monday night.
The Potters extended their unbeaten run to five games at the Stadium of Light in a game in which they had the better of the few clear-cut openings.
Pulis' side could have gone in front as early as the second minute with what proved to be the best chance of the game.
However, ex-Black Cat Dean Whitehead wasted his one-on-one as goalkeeper Craig Gordon got down to make the save.
"I thought the lads were brilliant because it's always difficult coming to the Stadium of Light with the crowd and everything else," said Pulis.
"That's a £30million strikeforce and they haven't had a shot on goal.
"You look at Darren Bent, who cost them £15million, and you look at Kenwyne Jones, who some people say they've turned down £15million for.
"There's only two teams who have come here and won so that shows you how tough it is.
"It's a great point for us and we could have even got all three."
