Pulis delight at maiden win
24 Aug 2008 - 10:24:31
Tony Pulis hailed the character of his side after their 3-2 victory over Aston Villa earned Stoke City a first-ever win in the Premier League.
The Potters bounced back from last weekend's sobering season opening 3-1 defeat at Bolton with three points at the Britannia Stadium, courtesy of a 90th minute winner from Mamady Sidibe.
"It was a great result because they are one of the better sides in this division," claimed Pulis.
"They have quality players in all areas of the pitch, but we battled, showed great determination and played some very nice football and in the end deserved our victory.
"We could have sank after they scored their second equaliser but we didn't. We got back up pushed forward and snatched a deserved victory."
Meanwhile, Pulis has confirmed his intention to further bolster his squad before the transfer window closes at the end of the month.
"Winning today will help us get maybe one or two other players at the level that we really need," he told the club's official website.
"We will be looking to get in a few more players next week.
"The new lads all did very well but we know we still want to improve and I will be looking to add some quality players to the squad next week."
