Stoke City manager Tony Pulis has finally admitted that he is interested in signing England striker David Nugent on loan from Portsmouth.
The 22-year-old has struggled to make his mark with Pompey since his big-money move from Preston North End last summer, while he is currently trying to regain full fitness after a hernia operation.
Pulis told The Sentinel: "We have made inquiries about David Nugent, but from now on I think the best thing to do is to talk to Portsmouth. If it's on, it's on. If it's not, it's not.
"We have people like Paul Gallagher on the bench who can create and score, but that final third will be so important as the season goes on."
Nugent, who has scored three goals in 16 appearances for Portsmouth, had seemed set to join City's Championship rivals Ipswich recently.
However, Town boss Jim Magilton pulled the plug on the deal after becoming frustrated at waiting for a response from the player over the projected switch.
