    Pulis berates Potters display

    28 Jan 2009 - 10:18:31

Manager Tony Pulis accepted that his side's performance had been well short of the required standard as Stoke City were beaten 3-1 at Tottenham Hotspur.

The visitors were three goals behind after just 25 minutes at White Hart Lane, with Pulis having no complaints after a dismal display.

He told the club's official website: "We were nowhere near good enough this evening and I'm disappointed in that.

"It was a game we were all looking forward to, but for some reason we lacked the bottle and spirit to get something from the game.

"You can't afford to go to places like Tottenham and give them so much time and space, because if you do this is what happens."

The only bright spots for Pulis were the performances of recent signings Matthew Etherington and James Beattie, with the latter scoring his first goal for City.

"James and Matthew especially looked really good tonight," Pulis added.

"They are real footballers and Matthew looked quality and composed every time he was on the ball.

"James took his goal with aplomb, but we know that is what he is capable of. That's why we brought him here.

"It will do his confidence a power of good and hopefully he can carry that on over the next few months."
